How to stop MIL coming to visit EVERY DAY?
Live by MIL, literally around the corner from us. (Bad move I know!)
For the past 5 years she’s been round nearly every single day for hours at a time. I didn’t mind at first as she has nobody else and gets lonely but it’s starting to bug me.
It’s always 3-4 hours in the evening when we are doing dinner/settling the kids. She just sits on the sofa, expects us to make her coffees and have dinner.
It’s gotten to the point where she’s commented she’s going to get a small fridge as she never cooks at home.
It’s even infringed on my own time with my own friends, friends have come over and MIL doesn’t get the hint to leave so I’ve stopped inviting friends over as it’s a bit embarrassing.
She’s commented about moving in with us but I’ve shut that down as neither me or DH want that. How do I get her to stop coming round EVERY single day?
Even if she cut it down to 5 visits a week I’d be happy having two evenings to longe about with the kids and do our own thing! She used to do it in the mornings too but I’ve stopped that by locking the door and pretending I’m back in bed.
It’s getting to the point where we sit in silence and just watch the news on repeat every evening as there’s nothing to talk about. I don’t even talk to my own parents daily.
