A 40-year-old woman stabbed her 15-year-old daughter on her right thigh with a knife because she was upset with her for going out too often, according to The Straits Times.
The woman, who had consumed alcohol before the attack, had targeted the girl’s left because she wanted to stop her from going out, and she also hit the victim with a metal ladle, a small electric fan and floorball sticks.
The victim ended up being warded at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) between 20 June to 1 July earlier this year and is currently under the care of her maternal aunt.
The woman pleaded guilty on Monday to voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon, and both the mother and daughter cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim.
What happened?
On 20 June, the victim was preparing to go to bed when her mother started scolding her; and at about 1.37am the mother then asked her 21-year-old older daughter if she should kill the victim.
The older daughter didn’t react because she was afraid the woman would turn her anger on her.
The mother then went into the kitchen to grab a knife, and she then returned to the victim’s room and stabbed her in the right thigh, resulting in the girl bleeding.
The girl also suffered another cut on her right arm as she was trying to stop her mother.
The victim then tried to stop her bleeding by tying a shirt around her thigh, and the mother then told her to clean up the blood on the floor before returning to the kitchen.
The victim then stumbled into her sister’s room for safety because she feared what their mother might do to her next.
The mother then returned to the room and saw that the blood had not been cleaned up, and she then shouted at the victim to come back and blamed her for the mess.
The victim then complied and cleaned up the blood because she was afraid of angering her mother further.
The woman was still upset and used a metal ladle to hit the girl until the ladle got bent out of shape, and she (the mother) then bent it back into shape before continuing to hit the girl with it, ignoring the victim’s cries for her to stop.
The mother then mocked the victim’s pain and suffering.
The commotion drew the attention of an unidentified person, who then called the police and they arrived at the scene at about 1.50am.
The mother then stopped attacking the girl and told her to hide in the toilet, before lying to the police that she and her older daughter were merely talking loudly.
The police then questioned the older daughter, who told them that everything was fine. The mother then continued attacking the victim with an electric fan until it broke, after the police left.
She then used two floorball sticks to attack the victim, before eventually stopping and telling her older daughter to treat her sister’s injuries.
The woman later called the police at about 3.20am and confessed to what she had done to her daughter, and the victim was then sent to KKH where she was found with lacerations on her arms and right thigh, among other injuries.
The mother is set to be sentenced on 4 January next year.
