The delivery rider, Wang, told 8World that she received a Cash-On Delivery order on 16 December in the afternoon for the pork ribs soup.

She then delivered the order to a unit at Bukit Batok West Avenue 5, and a teenage boy opened and door and told her that he didn’t order the food, refusing to pay for it.

He said that it was impossible for his family to order bak kut teh as they are Malay.

Wang then left the unit and called the customer who placed the order, who told her that there was someone home and urged her to faster deliver the food.

Attacked by mother and son

So Wang went back to the unit again, and this time she saw two people attacking an uncle outside the unit.

The duo who were attacking the man consisted of the teenage boy who had earlier opened the door to the delivery rider, and a woman who appeared to be his mother.

They turned their focus to Wang and cornered her, before attacking her – the mum hit her on the head and mouth several times as they kicked her, thinking that she had taken a photo of them and trying to grab her phone.

The teenage boy also told the neighbours who were passing by to mind their own business as he chased them away.

Another innocent man attacked

After the attack, Wang tried to call the customer who had ordered the bak kut teh but couldn’t get through.

She said that she heard the father of the family had owed loansharks about $400, and the loansharks then placed a fake food delivery order as a form of warning for him to return the money.

Wang added that the uncle who was attacked by the teenage boy and his mother was actually a real estate agent who was tricked by the loansharks to check on the debtors.

Wang’s son then filed a police report about the incident.

The Singapore Police Force confirmed that they received a call for help at about 3.15pm, and a 62-year-old man was sent to the hospital conscious.

They also added that a 45-year-old woman had suffered minor injuries and refused to be sent to the hospital, and that aa 32-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy are assisting with police investigations.
