I was walking down the street in Geylang, a neighbourhood in Singapore known for its large population of prostitutes, when a lorry driver cat-called me.
I was so shocked that I couldn’t do anything but stare at him in disbelief. It all happened so quickly that I didn’t have time to react, and before I knew it the lorry was gone.
I was feeling a bit shaken up, but I decided to keep walking. I was trying to get to my friend’s place, and I didn’t want to let this incident stop me. But I couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy as I continued my walk.
He continued to inch forward his lorry and shout “How much?! Lai Lai”
I started to run and did not dare to look behind. When I reached my destination, I told my friend what had happened.
She was as appalled as I was and insisted that I call the police. I knew she was right, but I was hesitant and did not think that I will take seriously.
I don’t think I will meet my friend for supper at Geylang anymore.
