2 INJURED AFTER POWERBANK CAUGHT FIRE ON SCOOT FLIGHT FROM TAIWAN TO S’PORE

On Tuesday (Jan 10), a Facebook user shared a photo of dense smoke in the cabin of an aeroplane.

Some netizens pointed out that the location is Taoyuan Airport.

Officials from Taoyuan Airport explained that they received a notification from the control tower at 19:40 on the evening of today (10th) that when Singapore Scoot flight TR993 was taxiing on the ground and preparing to take off, there was a fire in the cabin.

The airport immediately dispatched the fire brigade to be on duty. The fire was extinguished immediately after the incident, the fire brigade and ambulance continued to stand by the aircraft. After the fire was brought under control, the aircraft was arranged to slide back to the gate.

Scoot issued a statement in the evening stating that Scoot flight TR993 flew from Taipei to Singapore on January 10, 2023. While the aircraft was still on the ground, it returned to the boarding gate due to the ​passenger’s mobile power ​overheating​.

The situation was brought under control and two passengers who suffered minor burns to their fingers received medical assistance after the plane returned to the gate. 

Scoot is rescheduling flights​ and​ providing accommodation and meals to affected passengers. The safety of passengers and crew is Scoot’s top priority. Scoot is also investigating the incident.
