A fire broke out at Block 773 Bedok Reservoir View on the morning of 15 January and saw about 20 people evacuated by the SCDF.
No injuries were reported from the incident, and the SCDF said that they were alerted to the fire at about 5.20am.
The fire was extinguished with a water jet, and the SCDF is investigating the cause of the fire.
East Coast GRC MP Tan Kiat How said in a Facebook post that he had visited the family who lived in the affected flat, and said that the fire was started by a camera battery pack catching fire.

[Fire at Bedok reservoir view]
远亲救不了近火
I felt a sense of deja vu when Our Kampong Chai Chee team alerted me to an early morning fire at Bedok Reservoir View, #longvale RN.
A fire broke out around the same time last year, days before the lunar new year. The fire started at a coffeeshop and affected the entire block of residents.
I was relieved that this morning’s fire was quickly contained and didn’t spread beyond the unit. I understand that the fire started in one of bedrooms due to a camera battery pack that caught fire.
It was due to the quick thinking of the occupant and family members who alerted the neighbours. Singapore Civil Defence Force also arrived quickly and extinguished the fire.
I am glad that no one was hurt. When I visited and spoke with the family earlier, I could see that they were still in shock. Mdm Chan and her children were especially worried as her husband and their father was a stroke patient and couldn’t move without help.
I am also grateful for the quick and proactive help by East Coast Town Council and MyNiceHome HDB who ensured the power and water were reinstated, as well as cleaning the house. HDB colleagues have also scrambled to get a temporarily accommodation for Mdm Chan and the family. Hopefully they can enjoy their CNY with a peace of mind.
I was also glad to see the strong Kampong spirit. Mdm Chan’s neighbours – Malays and Chinese all chipped in to clean up the place and made sure the family was ok.
