A WHOPPING 800KG OF CHEWING TOBACCO SEIZED BY ICA OFFICERS IN SMUGGLING ATTEMPTS

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said in a Facebook statement on 4 February that they intercepted smuggling attempts at Tuas Checkpoint over 5 days.

ICA officers had profiled a Malaysia lorry on 11 January and found more than 113kg of chewing tobacco being hidden inside.

On 16 January, ICA officers detected anomalies in the scanned images of another Malaysia lorry, and uncovered about 749kg of chewing tobacco hidden in the lorry’s cargo consignment.

Both of the cases have since been referred to the Health Sciences Authority for further investigations.

On 11 Jan 2023, ICA officers profiled a Malaysia-registered lorry for enhanced checks and uncovered around 113kg of chewing tobacco hidden in various parts of the cabin.

On 16 Jan 2023, ICA officers noticed anomalies in the scanned images of a Malaysia-registered lorry. Further checks revealed around 749kg of chewing tobacco hidden in the lorry’s cargo consignment.

Both cases were referred to the Health Sciences Authority for further investigations.
