MAN ARRESTED FOR USING PHONE TO RECORD CARDS DEALT @ MBS CASINO

A 35-year-old Malaysian man was arrested for allegedly conspiring to record the cards being dealt at Marina Bay Sands casino with his mobile phone.

The man who is allegedly part of a syndicate, had a warrant out in Singapore for his arrest, and he was arrested on 3 February in Malaysia.

The police said that the video recordings of the cards being dealt out at the MBS casino were taken during baccarat games.

Under the Casino Control Act, any person who uses a device to record or count the cards being dealt out while gaming in a casino faces a jail term of up to 7 years and/or a fine of up to $150,000.

The 35-year-old man is believed to be linked to an earlier investigation which commenced on 24 December last year, by the Criminal Investigation Branch (CID)’s Casino Crime Investigation Branch; where he allegedly used a device to enable someone to record the cards being dealt at the MBS casino.

The Singapore Police Force said that the man was arrested with the help of the Royal Malaysia Police, and cited the two countries’ strong cooperation.

He was handed over to Singapore on 5 February and is set to be charged in court today (6 February).
