Why are food and parking so expensive in Singapore hospitals?
Food and parking are priced like shopping centers or sometimes even pricier. Is there any reason behind this?
Here are what other netizens think
- The parking is indeed expensive. I don’t drive but I empathise with having to pay $$$ when visiting your loved ones who are sick. I take public transport (2-way $4) and already feel the pinch. Doctors and top management get season parking. Other staff need to pay for season parking if they want to park their cars. Parking is expensive likely due to space constraints.
- If you or your family get warded, you can buy a whole day parking ticket for a much cheaper rate. So far the public and private hospitals i’ve been to do have this concession. Need your ward details, only limit to one ticket per day per patient.
- I have friends who work in KKH, and before the screener stations were removed, there used to be people who try and go in to buy food. So yes, even with those prices, people still want to go in and buy food because CONVENIENCE. So just imagine if the food was cheap.
- why not? hospitals are also commercial buildings. what’s wrong with the parking being priced like the shopping centres and other buildings in the vicinity?
- The thinking is wrong. Rent is expensive. Food and parking, if unsubsidised, are expensive. There is no reason to subsidise food or parking at hospitals. So it’s just market price
- Thats because hospitals charge high rental to the shops and shops have to pass them on.
