A slithering snake was spotted on 18 March inside the Wu Pao Chun bakery situated at Capitol Piazza on Saturday (18 march), leaving customers nearby stunned for words.
Staff members at the bakery worked together to try to catch the snake as they were worried for the safety of their customers, arming themselves with a mop and a pair of metal tongs.
The snake was eventually caught by the workers and handed over to the shopping mall’s security guards.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, the snake sighting took place on 18 March at about 4.30 pm at the Wu Pao Chun bakery outlet in Capitol Piazza.
A passer-by, Ms Zhang, told Lianhe Zaobao that she was entering the bakery at the time when she saw two of the bakery’s workers hovering around one of the bread shelves.
Ms Zhang had initially thought that the workers were cleaning the area but later realised that the staff members were in fact trying to catch a snake that was hiding under the shelves.
A video of the incident was also posted on Facebook, showing a mostly black-coloured snake coiled up and backed against the glass wall and under a shelf that was displaying bread.
One of the workers used a mop to hold the snake down, pressing it against the floor while the other worker tried to use a pair of metal tongs to catch it.
The squirming snake was wiggling while being pinned under the mop, trying to break free as passers-by gathers outside the bakery and watched on through the glass window.
Lianhe Zaobao reported that the bakery workers were worried for the safety of their customers and thus decided to take action and catch the snake.
They spent about 10 minutes trying to catch it and after failing several times, managed to eventually trap the snake in a bag of flour using a pair of metal tongs.
It was subsequently handed over to the security guards at the Capitol Piazza shopping mall.
