The general public and functional groups were previously invited on 16 March to submit names of persons to be considered for appointment as Nominated Members of Parliament (NMPs) of the 14th Parliament, and nominations were closed as of 19 April at 4.30pm.
The Office of the Clerk of Parliament said in a press release that at the time of closing, they had received 30 proposal forms for candidates to be considered by the Special Select Committee of 8 MPs, which is chaired by Speaker Tan Chuan Jin.
The Special Select Committee, which comprises of ministers Chan Chun Sing, Gan Kim Yong, Indranee Rajah, Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of State Gan Siow Huang, and Aljunied GRC MP Leon Perera; will interview the shortlisted applicants and come to an agreement on the nominees to the finalised, before recommending them to president Halimah Yacob, who will then appoint the NMPs.
NMPs in Singapore Parliament serve for a term of 2 and a half years, and it was first introduced in 1990 to ensure that a wider representation of views were reflected in Parliament.
The current group of NMPs, who were appointed on 21 January 2021, will see their term end in July later this year.

On 16 March 2023, the Special Select Committee on Nominations for Appointment as Nominated Members of Parliament (NMPs) of the 14th Parliament invited the general public and functional groups to submit names of persons for its consideration for appointment as NMPs.
2 The closing date and time for the submission of names was 4.30 pm on 19 April 2023. As at close of applications, a total of 30 Proposal Forms have been received.
