WHOLE WALL OF 12TH STOREY FLAT IN KL GOT RIPPED OFF DURING THUNDERSTORM

Malaysia has been experiencing intense rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms, resulting in severe weather conditions. The impact of this extreme weather was evident when a wall on the 12th floor of a flat in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia was torn off.

The whole wall was apparently ripped off during the thunderstorm, leaving the unit on the 12th floor of the building being exposed.

Images and videos of the exposed flat quickly circulated on social media platforms. People on the internet are now urging for the refurbishment of the flat, which was originally built in 1968.

The initial photograph of the damaged flat was shared on Twitter by a user named @rvzlee on May 19, as reported by the New Straits Times (NST). A video showed the wall being cleanly separated, revealing the illuminated interior of the home.

Surrounding flats appeared to be undamaged by the storm. A TikTok video, presumably recorded by the resident, provided a glimpse of the view from inside the affected unit.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries resulting from this incident.

The incident not only shocked online users but also raised concerns about the building’s condition. The incident prompted calls for refurbishment efforts due to the vulnerability of the wooden walls in the Loke Yew flat, which was constructed in 1968, as noted by NST. The aged structure was unable to withstand the powerful winds, leading to its disintegration.

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) swiftly addressed the situation, as reported by Bernama. Contractors were deployed on the same night to install temporary walls and began repair works the following day. As a safety precaution, the electricity supply to the affected unit was cut off, and the occupants temporarily relocated to nearby relatives’ homes.

Photos shared by Bernama on May 20 showcased the repair works in progress. Contractors were seen rebuilding the damaged wall using bricks and cement.
