Facebook user Wynn Wynn shared that she gave her 10-year-old daughter her credit card to buy a small soft toy that she wanted from a shop at Jurong Point.
However, the girl didn’t know that the toy was $38; she saw that the toy was rather small and didn’t expect it to be expensive.
She only found out that the toy costs $38 when she was at the cashier, and simultaneously she held the credit card to close to the machine and payment was subsequently deducted from the card via Paywave.
The girl then explained the situation to the cashier but couldn’t get a refund.
Here is what she said
Could anyone tell me where the price list is in the picture?
My 10-years old daughter went to Goldwood@Jurong Point last week 14/5/23, she saw a soft toy in the box pictured below and decided to buy it. As I was busy with work, I gave my credit card to her to make the purchase. Seeing that the toy is rather small ( 8cm x5cm), she figured it would not be expensive.
However, when she went to the cashier to make payment, the lady told her that the item cost $38.
Unfortunately, my daughter was holding the card too close to the machine and deduction was made through Paywave.
Therefter, my daughter returned to explain the situation as she was unable to get an immediately refund from the shop. Understanding that the shop has a ‘No refund’ policy, I took the toy back to ask for an exchange of product. To my utter shock and disbelief, the same lady shouted at me and claimed that she had confirmed the price with my daughter before transaction was made. I told the cashier that I did not wish to pick a quarrel but merely
wanted to exchange the paid item for something else. In the end, we exchanged the toy for 2 towels.
After the exchange, I asked the cashier where the price list for the soft toys was , She sullenly pointed at the top right hand corner of the box. It was at this moment that I felt my daughter had been cheated.
