Vietnamese women, seeking better opportunities, were lured into a nightmarish trap by fake job offers before being kidnapped.

Two of the three Malaysian men, who kidnapped at least 4 Vietnamese women, have since been arrested by the Malaysian police, with a third still on the run, according to China Press.

The Lure of False Promises

The victims’ ordeal often begins innocently, with chance encounters at social establishments. One victim, a DJ, told China Press that she encountered a suspect at a bar. Contact was exchanged, yet communication remained sporadic throughout the year.

The suspect then recently got in touch with the victim and coaxed her with offers of DJ work at an exclusive party. Repeatedly declined, the victim eventually succumbed and agreed to the invitation.

At the meeting’s onset, the victim was forcibly abducted and pulled into a vehicle, held at knifepoint with a knife pressed against her neck. She was also bound, blindfolded, and threatened, and her family and friends were extorted for ransom.

The victim was finally released after a ransom was paid.

She also revealed that several of her friends were also kidnapped by the group using similar methods to lure them, with about at least 4 women falling victim so far.

The Disturbing Pattern

Investigations have uncovered a disturbing pattern – the kidnappers targeted Vietnamese women. This calculated strategy raises questions about the vulnerability of specific groups within society.

Experts speculate that the kidnappers may have chosen Vietnamese women due to cultural traits like kindness and reluctance to cause trouble.

After kidnapping the victims, the group would then ask for a ransom of between RM30,000 (S$8,784) and RM60,000 (S$17,568) from the victims’ family and friends before releasing them.
