In a startling turn of events, a taxi driver finds himself in hot water as he faces court charges on Tuesday (Jan 23) for an alleged physical altercation with another driver on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE).
The incident, which took place on Sep 25 last year, involved a clash between a 53-year-old taxi driver and a 59-year-old car driver, which ended with the latter being pushed into a drain and being sent to the hospital, according to The Straits Times.
The Alleged Altercation
The altercation unfolded along lane 1 of the PIE towards Changi, near the Stevens Road exit. According to police reports, the taxi driver is suspected of pushing the car driver after a verbal dispute. This forceful action allegedly led to the car driver falling into a drain, resulting in multiple abrasions on his body.
The police were alerted to the incident at approximately 5:15 am, responding promptly to the unfolding situation. The injured car driver, conscious but battered, was swiftly taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Background and Investigation
Investigations revealed that the confrontation originated from a rear-end collision between the taxi and the car. The circumstances leading to the collision are yet to be fully disclosed. However, the aftermath of the accident escalated into a heated exchange that turned physical.
The 53-year-old taxi driver is slated to be charged tomorrow (23 January) with a rash act causing hurt. This offense, if proven, carries serious legal consequences.
If found guilty, the taxi driver could face a maximum penalty of up to one year in jail, a fine, or a combination of both.
