On March 12, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) revealed that a new Passenger Service Charge (PSC) fee for transferring passengers will be implemented at Malaysian airports, including the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), starting June 1, 2024. This change is aimed at assisting the aviation sector’s recovery and adaptability in the post-pandemic era.
The new transfer PSC fee will vary depending on the terminal. International passengers transferring flights at KLIA Terminal 1 (KLIA1) will be charged RM42 (approximately SGD 12), while those transferring at KLIA Terminal 2 (KLIA2) will be charged RM29 (around SGD 8). This fee will be applied to outbound transfer flights departing from Kuala Lumpur to any ASEAN countries and beyond.
Notably, the rates for KLIA2 and other airports are lower, considering they primarily serve short-haul flights. For instance, a passenger arriving at KLIA Terminal 1 and transferring to another flight to Singapore will incur the new transfer fee of RM42 (approximately SGD 12). Additionally, they will also need to pay the revised departure PSC fees.
Currently, the departure PSC for flights to ASEAN countries is set at RM35 (approximately SGD 10) for both KLIA1 and KLIA2. For flights beyond ASEAN countries, the departure fees are RM73 (around SGD 21). Following the revision, the departure fee for international travelers flying out of KLIA1, regardless of the destination, will be RM73 (approximately SGD 21). Meanwhile, the departure fee for the same from KLIA2 will be RM50 (around SGD 14).
Mavcom assured that the revised fees will not be applied to flight tickets issued before June 1, 2024, even if the travel date falls on or after this date. The commission believes that the revised fees will help the aviation sector recover and adapt in the post-pandemic environment.
