A Malaysian man, who was an accounting graduate from a Malaysian University, was caught taking upskirt videos of unsuspecting women in Singapore. Eugene Phang Cheng Qing, 23,was sentenced to 10 weeks in jail after admitting to three counts of insulting the modesty of a woman between May 5 and May 24.
Phang arrived in Singapore on May 5, but it was only on May 24 that he was caught by a man who saw him behaving suspiciously at Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station. He had noticed Phang looking around before taking a few steps up the escalator to stand behind a woman. Phang then slid open the lid covering the camera lens of his mobile phone, and placed it under the skirt of the woman, intending to insult her modesty. The upskirt video lasted about 40 seconds.
The unnamed man confronted Phang, who admitted his guilt but said this was the first time he had done something like this. Police were called in, and when his iPhone and laptop were seized, they found eight upskirt videos were found in the laptop and one in his mobile phone.
Two other incidents happened at Buona Vista and Mountbatten MRT stations. Phang admitted that he targeted female victims who appeared to be alone.
