The Malaysian police have strongly criticized a Facebook post that encouraged Singaporean drivers to display a “nothing to steal” sign on their vehicles when visiting Malaysia.
The post, which was shared on the Facebook group SG Kaypoh 人！, featured an image of a car with a sign that read, “Please do not break my window again. This car has already been broken into—there is nothing to steal.”
According to Johor Bahru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat, the post was “quite mischievous” and did not accurately represent the reality of the situation. He emphasized that the police are committed to ensuring the safety of all visitors, including Singaporeans, and that the number of cases involving vehicle break-ins is relatively low.
Raub also pointed out that about 250,000 Singapore-registered cars enter Johor Bahru daily, and if all of these cars had their windows smashed, there would be long lines of people lodging reports at police stations. He encouraged car owners to take responsibility for their own safety by not leaving valuables inside their vehicles and avoiding parking in dimly lit or secluded areas.
