WOMAN EARNS $4.2K/MTH, ASKS HOW COME OTHER PEOPLE CAN EARN $6K-$8K/MTH

How does one make >6k salary in Singapore?

Some context, when talking to friends and online people alike, it seems that its very common for a lot of people to be earning 6-8k SGD a month, and it seems like anything lower than 4k is seen as abnormal and low? Is this really the case?

Currently, Im working in sales (more like account management, contracted sales, not out hunting commission based) and after working for 5 years (total) I’m making 4.2k as an assistant sales manager.

Now I’ve just finished my bachelors in business and I was wondering what would a viable career move would be, to move into that income range? What kind of jobs would be relevant for me with a business degree? Is 4.2k considered low for a 29 year old?

Also, would an MBA be worth it to get? I have very little commitments in the way of family and kids etc, and have the financial means to get one.

Would love some career advice from laojiaos and peers alike.

Cheers!

  1. This question is very industry and job specific. Hard to compare sia.
  2. here all software engineers working in tech firms and banks, so they say 4k is low.
  3. Firstly, understand there’s inherently bias in your data. Those who earn less might not share their salary as willingly.
But yeah like what others have said, you gotta job hop. Some friends also changed industries and did a career switch which boosted their salary. Gotta get out of your comfort zone sometimes.
  4. Move into enterprise sales. If you have 5+ years experience selling software to large companies you’ll be in $14k base plus commission (which should be the same as your base if you hit targets).
$4.2k is perfectly fine as a 29 years old. You gotta understand that most people will only hit their peak earning capacity in their 40s, so you have a long way to grow your salary.
