WOMAN QUITS $8K/MTH JOB TO BE STAY-HOME MUM FOR “A WHILE”, THEN 20 YEARS PASSED…

I don’t know is it a curse or a blessing that I didn’t work for close to 20 years.

I married young. I was actually earning 6-8k monthly on my first and only job. I quit when I got pregnant.

At that time my husband and I already own a home. We have no loans. We did the math and decided that I could be a sahm for a while.

I didn’t know ‘a while’ will become 20 years.

My husband didn’t mind that I continue to be a sahm but I would prefer to get back to the workforce. I wish to do something different now. Besides I want to build up my own savings too.

I know it’s impossible to draw a similar pay from my previous job and I can’t help but feel very demoralised after each interview.

They didn’t say it but I felt I was too old and they would rather pick a younger candidate. I found some that are less picky in their criteria and my husband said the pay doesn’t justify the effort because its close to the allowance to he gives me. Sadly I agree with him.

Anyone also took a long break from the workforce? How did you get back on your feet?

  • Also sahm. To be honest I wouldn’t be expecting any kind of high pay to get back in the workforce. I would be there to learn new stuff, make new friends and kill time, esp if my kids have already grown up.
Your savings shd be from whatever allowances your husband gave you when you are a sahm. I hope it is not so meagre you ran through it every month.
Also, it is always good to have investments. Personally even though I am sahm, I still earn passive income through my investments.
So start somewhere with lower expectations, and consider taking up courses to upgrade yourself. Good Luck!
