Tragic Fall: Newlywed Woman Dies Just Before Honeymoon in Malaysia

In a heartbreaking incident, a 29-year-old bride-to-be tragically fell to her death from the seventh floor of Queensbay Mall in Penang, Malaysia, just one day before her honeymoon. The incident occurred around 12:44 PM on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The woman, identified as Tan Yi Hui, had been in contact with her family shortly before the fall, asking them to purchase food, which raised concerns about her mental state prior to the incident.

Tan, a resident of Sungai Bakap in South Seberang Perai, was reportedly in good spirits and had made plans for her upcoming honeymoon. Her family is now seeking witnesses to the incident, urging anyone who may have dashcam footage or who was present at the mall between 12:20 PM and 12:45 PM to come forward. According to Southwest District Police Chief Shazali, mall security reported the incident at 12:47 PM, and initial investigations suggest that Tan fell near the loading bay area, leaving her belongings in her vehicle.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that a supermarket employee driving near the loading zone witnessed the fall. Following the incident, Tan’s body was transported to Balik Pulau Hospital, where a post-mortem examination confirmed that she died from multiple injuries consistent with a high fall.

Despite the circumstances surrounding her death, Tan’s family is skeptical about the possibility of suicide. Her younger brother stated that they would refrain from making further comments until after her funeral. Tan’s sister described her as a reserved individual, and the family has expressed a desire to conduct her final rites in a private and respectful manner.

Adding to the family’s doubts, Tan’s best friend raised questions about the events leading up to the fall, noting that Tan’s car was parked on the fifth floor of the mall. “Why would she go from the fifth to the seventh floor to jump? My friend had so many plans — how could she have killed herself?” she questioned, emphasizing that Tan had already packed for her honeymoon and had confirmed hotel reservations.

Tan Yi Hui was cremated at the Bukit Mertajam Berapit Buddhist Crematorium on May 7, 2025. The family continues to seek clarity on the tragic circumstances of her death, hoping that witnesses will come forward to shed light on the events of that fateful day.

As the community mourns the loss of a young life filled with promise, the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to local authorities to assist in uncovering the truth behind this tragic event.Bookmark messageCopy messageExport
