Johor’s tourism sector is preparing for a significant influx of visitors as school holidays begin in both Malaysia and Singapore. The Malaysian school holidays started on May 29 and will continue until June 9, while Singapore’s school break runs from May 31 to June 29.
Popular destinations such as Johor Premium Outlets, Legoland Malaysia, and Desaru Coast are expected to see a spike in footfall as families take advantage of the break to travel. Hoteliers and attraction operators have reported a noticeable increase in bookings, with some establishments already nearing full capacity for the coming weekend.
Johor state officials have urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead of time, warning that heavy traffic is anticipated at the Causeway and Second Link crossings. “We are expecting high traffic volumes especially during the weekends. Authorities are on standby to manage congestion and ensure the safety of all road users,” said Johor Traffic Chief Superintendent Azman Shari’at.
To help ease congestion, the Immigration Department of Malaysia has increased manpower at checkpoints, while local police are set to implement crowd and traffic control measures near major tourist hotspots. In addition, public transportation operators are coordinating additional services to accommodate the rise in demand.
Retailers and food vendors are also gearing up for a seasonal boom, as Johor’s economy typically receives a boost during school breaks due to spending by tourists, particularly from neighboring Singapore.
Authorities continue to advise the public to remain patient, stay informed through official traffic updates, and adhere to all safety regulations while traveling.
With thousands expected to hit the roads and tourist attractions across Johor in the coming days, both locals and visitors alike are encouraged to plan ahead and brace for the holiday rush.
