Furious Driver Rams Axia Repeatedly in Johor Bahru Over Minor Traffic Dispute — Faces Multiple Charges
In a shocking road rage incident captured on video, a 50-year-old Malaysian man was arrested after deliberately reversing his Toyota Hilux three times into a Perodua Axia, all because the latter had slowed down on the road. The incident, which occurred along Jalan Tun Razak in Johor Bahru, has since gone viral, prompting widespread public outrage.
Altercation Turns Violent on Jalan Tun Razak
The event took place on 22 June 2025 at around 3:10 PM, as confirmed by Johor Bahru South District Police Chief, Superintendent Raub. According to police investigations, the 63-year-old Axia driver had reduced his speed after missing a turn. The Hilux driver, who was trailing him closely, allegedly grew impatient and confrontational during an overtaking attempt.
What followed was an unexpected and aggressive act: the Hilux reversed forcefully into the stationary Axia not once, but three times, as captured by a bystander’s dashcam. In the footage, the Axia driver can be seen standing at the rear of his car when the first impact occurred — he was flung forward and hit by his own vehicle due to the force.
Damages and Criminal Record Uncovered
The incident caused an estimated RM15,300 (~S$4,360) in damages. The suspect was arrested soon after, and investigations revealed that he has seven previous criminal records, although he is not currently listed as a wanted individual. Drug tests also returned negative results.
Police have since applied for a remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and the suspect faces multiple serious charges.
Facing Jail Time and License Suspension
The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which pertains to mischief resulting in property damage. If convicted, the offender could face up to 5 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
In addition, the suspect is also being investigated under:
- Section 279 of the Penal Code: Reckless driving on a public road (up to 6 months’ jail, or a fine up to RM2,000 (~S$570), or both)
- Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987: Reckless and dangerous driving, punishable by up to 5 years’ imprisonment, a fine between RM5,000 and RM15,000 (~S$1,420 to ~S$4,260), and possible license suspension of up to 2 years
Public Reaction: “All This Over One Missed Turn?”
Netizens were appalled at the unnecessary aggression. Many questioned why such a trivial road incident escalated to such violence. Comments flooded police pages, with many calling for strict penalties to deter future road rage incidents.
“Lose temper never mind, but use your car like a weapon? That one cannot lah.”
“What if got child behind the Axia? This could’ve been a tragedy.”
This incident is yet another reminder of the dangers of impulsive behaviour behind the wheel — and how a moment of rage can lead to lifelong consequences.
