The victim, described as a middle-aged man, was seated inside his four-wheel-drive vehicle near the primary school gates when the gunmen arrived. Both suspects were riding a motorcycle and wore full-face helmets to conceal their identities, reported The Star.

Eyewitnesses said one of the assailants brandished a pistol and fired multiple shots directly at the driver’s side window before fleeing the scene on the motorcycle. Images shared on social media revealed at least five bullet holes clustered around the driver’s seat area, with dark-tinted windows showing the severity of the attack.

Quick Thinking Saved His Life

Despite the brazen attack in broad daylight, the man escaped unscathed thanks to his quick reflexes. The Star reported that he noticed the two masked men approaching his car and, sensing danger, immediately reclined his seat. This swift action caused the shots to miss him entirely.

Photos from Chinese daily Kwong Wah showed the vehicle riddled with bullet holes, while the school area was quickly cordoned off by police. Ambulances and emergency personnel arrived on the scene shortly after the shooting, but fortunately, no one else was injured.

The incident has left the local community in shock, as parents and children were nearby when the shooting took place. The police confirmed they have launched an investigation and are working to track down the suspects involved in the attempted murder.

Rising Concerns Over Gun Violence in Malaysia

This attempted shooting highlights growing concerns about gun violence in Malaysia, particularly in urban areas like Penang. While Malaysia has strict gun control laws, illegal firearms continue to surface in organised crime and targeted attacks, raising alarm among citizens.

Authorities have urged members of the public with any information to come forward to assist with the investigation. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and police have yet to confirm whether the incident was linked to organised crime or a personal dispute.

As investigations continue, local residents are calling for increased security presence around schools and other public areas to prevent similar incidents. The police have reassured the public that they are treating the case with utmost priority to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
