A hospital in Bihar, India, became the scene of a chilling execution when five armed men casually strolled into a private room and gunned down a notorious gangster in cold blood. The victim, 36-year-old Chandan Mishra, was recovering from surgery under police custody when the hitmen entered his ward without resistance and opened fire.
Executed During Recovery in Private Hospital Ward
According to The Indian Express, the shocking incident took place at approximately 7:15am on 17 July. CCTV footage revealed the attackers walking into Mishra’s room on the second floor of the hospital, all armed and appearing composed. Within moments, multiple shots were fired at close range, killing Mishra on the spot.
Mishra, who was serving a life sentence for a high-profile 2011 murder, had been granted temporary parole for medical treatment. He was known to police as a “notorious criminal”, with over 24 charges spanning murder, extortion, criminal conspiracy, and illegal weapons possession — cases spread across multiple districts in the Indian state of Bihar.
Police suspect the assassination was the result of a gang rivalry. Investigations have confirmed that Mishra had a long-standing feud with another gangster known as Sheru, once his ally but later his bitter enemy after tensions rose behind bars.
Chilling Calmness Caught on Video
The man believed to have led the group of killers was identified as Tauseef Badshah, a known hitman who had recently risen in the underworld for taking on contract killings. What shocked viewers was how calm he appeared even after the gunfire. While the rest of the group fled the scene, Badshah was seen strutting out of the room slowly, showing no panic.
More CCTV footage from the vicinity showed six individuals riding away on motorbikes. In a disturbing gesture, one raised his hands in the air while brandishing a firearm — as if celebrating the kill. Authorities have since confirmed that all six suspects involved in the operation have been arrested.
Police Admit Surge in Violence as Elections Near
Following the incident, Bihar police held a press conference to address growing concerns over the rising crime rate. Senior police official Kundan Krishnan told reporters that shootings in Bihar tend to spike between April and June — a period where many farmers are less occupied before the monsoon season begins.
“Once the rains come, people get back to agricultural work and such crimes naturally reduce,” Krishnan said. However, he also acknowledged that the approaching state election has intensified scrutiny over crime in the region, with political parties placing pressure on law enforcement.
To curb further violence, the state police are building a comprehensive database of known contract killers and active shooters, monitoring their movements and associates closely.
Public Safety Concerns Mount After Hospital Slaying
The brutal assassination inside what should have been a secure medical facility has triggered public outrage. Questions are being raised about how armed men managed to enter a hospital, locate a high-profile prisoner, and carry out a fatal attack in broad daylight without any immediate intervention.
Authorities in Bihar are now under immense pressure to restore public confidence in law and order. For many, this incident is not just about a gangster rivalry — it’s a grim reminder of how deeply rooted organised crime remains in parts of India, and how brazen criminal networks have become.
More updates are expected as the case develops and investigators probe the full scope of the conspiracy behind the killing.
