ComfortDelGro Taxi Driver Under Fire for Throwing Wheelchair in Redhill During Dispute

A ComfortDelGro taxi driver is facing disciplinary action after she was filmed aggressively throwing a wheelchair onto the pavement during a heated altercation with her own family members. The incident, which occurred on 18 July along Redhill Road, was caught on video and has since gone viral on social media, amassing over 350,000 views.

The video, uploaded by SG Road Vigilante on Facebook, captured the moment a blue ComfortDelGro cab stopped near a zebra crossing. Without warning, a red bag was tossed from the vehicle. Shortly after, a woman exited from the back seat, picked up the bag, and handed it to an elderly woman who had just alighted from the front passenger seat. What shocked viewers was what followed next — the driver opened the boot and violently flung a folded wheelchair onto the ground.

Adding to the drama, the driver then forcefully pulled another female passenger away from the cab while she was trying to retrieve something left inside. After slamming the door shut, the driver also forcefully closed the boot, further highlighting her anger in the moment.

Incident Was a Family Dispute, Not Involving Customers

ComfortDelGro, one of Singapore’s largest taxi operators, has confirmed that the individuals involved in the incident were not fare-paying passengers but the driver’s own family members. A spokesperson from the company stated that the matter stemmed from a personal disagreement and stressed that the behaviour displayed was “unacceptable and does not reflect the professional standards we uphold.”

The transport giant has since launched an internal investigation into the matter and confirmed that disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with company policies. While no members of the public were directly affected, the company acknowledged the public concern triggered by the viral video and reassured that appropriate action is being taken.

Public Outcry and Social Media Reaction

The video has drawn widespread backlash, with netizens expressing concern for the elderly woman involved and criticising the driver for her aggressive conduct. Many questioned her ability to continue serving in a public-facing role, given the lack of composure displayed in the footage.

With Singapore’s ageing population and strong focus on caregiving and respect for the elderly, the incident has stirred emotional responses online. Observers highlighted the importance of treating vulnerable individuals with dignity, regardless of personal conflicts.

This incident also underscores the increasing scrutiny drivers face in the age of social media, where any outburst or lapse in professionalism can be broadcast instantly and provoke public outrage.
