The police were alerted on 5 August 2025 at around 10.34 pm after the main gate and door of a unit were vandalised with red paint. A debtor’s note was also found left outside the premises, prompting investigations into the matter.

Officers from the Jurong Police Division, with the assistance of images from police cameras, quickly identified the suspect and arrested her the following day on 6 August. The red paint and debtor’s note were seized as evidence. Authorities believe the woman may also be linked to similar loanshark harassment cases across Singapore.

Serious Charges and Possible Penalties

The suspect will face charges in court on 7 August 2025 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first-time offenders, loanshark harassment offences carry stiff penalties, including fines ranging from SGD 5,000 to SGD 50,000, imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.

The Singapore Police have reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on loanshark-related harassment. Individuals found deliberately damaging property or disrupting public peace will be dealt with severely under the law.

The police urge the public to avoid involvement with loansharks and not to assist or cooperate with them in any way. Anyone suspecting loanshark activities or harassment is encouraged to report immediately by calling 999.

Public Advisory Against Loanshark Activities

Loansharking remains a serious social issue that undermines community safety and security. The police emphasise that victims and bystanders should seek help early and avoid engaging with such illegal moneylenders.

Through vigilant community cooperation and swift law enforcement actions, authorities aim to curb loanshark intimidation and protect residents from related offences.

The public is reminded to stay alert and support efforts to uphold safety and peace in their neighbourhoods.
