Two men have been arrested following separate incidents at the same residential block in Sembawang, where objects were allegedly thrown from upper floors, raising serious safety concerns among residents.
The cases, which occurred within a short span of time, involved items being hurled from height — a dangerous act that could have resulted in severe injuries or even fatalities. Fortunately, no one was reported hurt in either incident.
Authorities have emphasised that such behaviour will not be tolerated, given the potential risks to public safety in high-density housing estates.
TABLE ALLEGEDLY THROWN FROM FOURTH FLOOR
The first incident took place on the morning of March 23 at Block 363C Sembawang Crescent. According to the Singapore Police Force, officers received a call for assistance at around 10:05am.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a 26-year-old man had allegedly thrown a wooden table from the fourth floor. The item reportedly shattered upon impact when it hit the ground level.
While no injuries were reported, the incident alarmed residents in the vicinity, as falling objects from height pose a significant threat to pedestrians and nearby vehicles.
Such acts are treated seriously under Singapore law due to the unpredictable nature of where the object may land.
BICYCLE THROWN HOURS LATER FROM HIGHER FLOOR
In a separate case at the same block, police responded to another call at about 1:30am on March 24. This time, a 27-year-old man is alleged to have thrown a bicycle from the eleventh floor.
The height involved in the second incident significantly increased the potential danger, as heavier objects falling from higher levels can cause catastrophic harm.
Both incidents occurring at the same location within hours have sparked concern over safety and behaviour in residential estates, especially in densely populated areas.
Police investigations quickly identified both suspects, and officers from the Woodlands Police Division arrested them on the same day the reports were made.
LEGAL CONSEQUENCES AND PUBLIC SAFETY RISKS
The table and bicycle involved in the incidents were seized as evidence. Both men are expected to be charged in court with committing a rash act under Section 336(a) of the Penal Code.
If convicted, they could face penalties including up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Authorities reiterated that reckless actions which endanger human life will be dealt with firmly. Throwing objects from height is considered particularly dangerous, as it creates unpredictable risks for anyone in the vicinity.
The incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible behaviour in shared living environments. In Singapore’s high-rise estates, even a single careless act can have serious consequences, making vigilance and community awareness crucial in maintaining safety for all residents.
