Repeat Drug Offender Jailed for Concealing Drugs in Court
A 38-year-old repeat drug offender was sentenced to seven years and six months in jail, along with three strokes of the cane, after attempting to smuggle drugs into the State Courts by concealing them in his body.
Muhammad Iskandar Shah Jaffar, who had previously undergone rehabilitation for drug consumption offences, brought packets of methamphetamine and diamorphine to a court mention on 17 September 2025. Fearing detection at the security gantry, he hid the drugs in his anus, wrapping them in plastic and tape, CNAÂ reported.
However, prison officers at the Singapore Prisons conducted an X-ray scan and suspected contraband concealed internally. The following day, the items were recovered from his faecal matter, including drugs, a lighter, a court mention slip, and a piece of paper. Investigations confirmed that Iskandar intended to consume the drugs.
Prior Offences and Supervision Breaches
Iskandar’s criminal record revealed a series of offences. In October 2024, he fled police, abandoning a vehicle containing drugs and paraphernalia, and even jumped into a canal to escape. In January 2025, he stole an unattended delivery van, taking cash, a mobile phone, and other items.
Additionally, Iskandar had repeatedly failed to report for mandatory urine tests, missing 88 tests between February 2024 and May 2025 while under a five-year supervision order. Urine tests conducted after his arrest on 7 May 2025 confirmed the presence of drugs.
Charges and Sentencing
In court, Iskandar pleaded guilty to six charges, primarily drug-related, including possession of diamorphine and methamphetamine, and consumption of a specified drug. He also admitted to theft of a van, resulting in a one-year driving ban. Seven other charges were considered during sentencing.
The court’s decision underscores the strict penalties for repeat drug offenders in Singapore, including corporal punishment, and highlights the authorities’ ongoing efforts to prevent drug abuse and related criminal activity.
