British Mother Appeals For Clues After Son Found Dead In Bangkok Hotel
A grieving British mother is seeking answers after her son was found dead under unclear circumstances in a hotel room in Bangkok, with investigators still working to determine the cause of death.
The victim, Joshua Kershaw, 21, had been travelling in Thailand and was last in contact with his family shortly after arriving at a hotel in the Sukhumvit area. During his final conversation, he told his mother he intended to get something to eat before continuing his journey to Pattaya.
However, communication abruptly ceased after that call, prompting concern among family members who later launched an online search when they could not reach him.
Body Discovered In Hotel Room Under Unclear Circumstances
Joshua’s body was eventually discovered by a hotel staff member lying on the floor beside his bed. Reports indicated that one of his arms was wrapped in a bandage at the time of discovery, raising further questions about the events leading up to his death.
Local authorities were notified, and the case was referred to officers from Lumphini Police Station. However, it remains unclear why the family was not informed of his death until several weeks later, adding to their distress.
In response, the family initially set up a fundraising campaign to travel to Thailand in search of him, only to later redirect the funds towards repatriating his body back to the United Kingdom after confirmation of his death.
CCTV Footage Reveals Final Hours Before Collapse
Investigations have since revealed details of Joshua’s final known movements. CCTV footage reportedly showed him visiting a bar near his hotel with an unidentified foreign woman dressed in beige.
The pair were seen eating and drinking together, with Joshua ordering food and several alcoholic beverages. At some point during the outing, he suddenly collapsed while still at the venue.
The woman accompanied him to a hospital, where he received treatment before later returning alone to the same entertainment area. He eventually made his way back to the hotel in the early hours, carrying additional drinks, before being found dead later.
Police Investigating Possible Causes Including Drug Intake
Authorities in Thailand have resumed investigations, with several possible causes under consideration, including accidental overdose, manslaughter, or other contributing factors.
According to statements shared by his mother, toxicology findings indicated the presence of multiple substances in his system — reportedly up to seven different drugs — at levels that could trigger severe or life-threatening reactions.
Despite these findings, police have stated that there is currently no clear evidence pointing to foul play. Staff from both the bar and the hotel have been questioned, with initial accounts suggesting that the unidentified woman did not display suspicious behaviour and was only present during the meal before Joshua became unwell.
Family Urges Public To Identify Woman Seen With Victim
Joshua’s mother has since made a public appeal to identify the woman seen in the CCTV footage, describing her as the last known person to have been with her son before his death.
She emphasised that speaking to the woman could be crucial in understanding what happened during Joshua’s final hours. Images of the individual have been circulated online in hopes that someone may come forward with information.
While investigations continue, the case has drawn attention to the risks associated with nightlife environments and substance use while travelling abroad. Authorities are urging tourists to remain cautious and aware of their surroundings, especially when interacting with unfamiliar individuals in foreign destinations.
