PREGNANT WOMAN CRITICALLY INJURED AFTER GUN DISCHARGE DURING DOMESTIC DISPUTE IN SAMUI
A domestic dispute in Thailand has taken a tragic turn after a pregnant woman was critically injured by a gunshot during an altercation with her husband. The incident, which occurred in Koh Samui, has raised renewed concerns about domestic violence, firearm safety, and family protection laws in the region.
Police were alerted to a shooting at a residential property near a shopping area in the Bo Phut district. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the victim had already been rushed to hospital by members of the public. The woman, aged 31 and four months pregnant, had sustained a severe gunshot wound to the eye and was reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities identified the suspect as her 31-year-old husband, who fled the scene immediately after the incident. A manhunt was launched, and he was apprehended within approximately two hours near the location of the crime. Officers recovered a .357 revolver at the time of arrest, along with several rounds of ammunition, one of which had been discharged.
DOMESTIC ARGUMENT ESCALATES INTO LIFE-THREATENING INCIDENT
Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had been involved in a heated argument shortly before the shooting. According to the husband’s statement to police, the dispute stemmed from accusations of infidelity and intense jealousy.
The suspect claimed that during the confrontation, he drew his firearm and threatened to take his own life out of frustration. However, as tensions escalated, his wife allegedly attempted to seize the weapon, resulting in the gun discharging. The bullet struck her in the face, causing her to collapse unconscious on the spot.
Inside the home, investigators found significant bloodstains on the bed, indicating the severity of the injury. Forensic teams also collected gunpowder residue from the suspect’s hands as part of the evidence-gathering process.
SUSPECT FACES ATTEMPTED MURDER AND ILLEGAL FIREARM CHARGES
Following his arrest, the man reportedly confessed to his involvement but insisted that the shooting was unintentional. He expressed remorse and stated that he hoped both his wife and unborn child would survive the ordeal.
Despite his claims, authorities have formally charged him with attempted murder, along with illegal possession of a firearm. Legal experts note that even if the discharge was accidental, the act of brandishing a weapon during a domestic dispute significantly increases criminal liability.
