I (26F) am actually shaking while typing this. Just broke up with my BF of three years because of the most backward, illogical reasoning I have ever heard in my life.
For context, I’ve always been insecure about my chest. I’m talkng “flat as a pancake” flat. It’s been my biggest insecurity since secondary school. I’ve worked, saved up my own money, and finally decided to go for a BA (breast augmentation) to finally feel like a woman in my own clothes. I didn’t even go crazy—just a natural enhancement so I don’t look like a 12-year-old boy in a bikini.
I thought he would be supportive? Or at least, you know, appreciate the “view”? Boy, was I wrong.
The moment I came home from the clinic, still groggy and in my compression bra, he started a massive row. He didn’t ask if I was in pain or if the surgery went well. Instead, he looked at me with pure disgust and called me a “chicken.” His exact words: “Only chickens and KTV girls do plastic surgery on their breasts. Decent Singaporean girls don’t do this kind of thing. You are so cheap now.”
I was stunned. I paid for this with my own hard-earned salary. I didn’t ask him for a single cent. When I tried to argue that it’s my body and it makes me confident, he told me I have “corrupted values” and that he cannot bring a “fake” girl home to meet his parents because they will “definitely know.”
The irony? This is the same guy who follows hundreds of IG models and influencers on TikTok who are clearly “enhanced.” So it’s okay for him to thirst over them on his screen, but the moment his girlfriend wants to feel confident, I’m suddenly “low class”?
He packed his bags and left, saying he “didn’t sign up to date a plastic doll.” Honestly, good riddance. If his love for me was so fragile that it couldn’t handle some silicone and a bit of self-confidence, then what was I even holding onto?
Is the mindset in SG still this narrow? I feel like I’ve just dodged a bullet, but the “chicken” comment really stung. Happy to be single and “upgraded” than with a guy who has a 1950s mindset.
