Thai Family Drives 130km Before Realising They Left 6 Y.O Daughter at Petrol Station

A family road trip in Thailand took an alarming turn after parents unknowingly left their six-year-old daughter behind at a petrol station, only discovering the mistake more than 130 kilometres later.

The incident, which occurred on the evening of April 14, has since drawn widespread attention, raising questions about travel safety and parental awareness during long-distance journeys. Local authorities later confirmed that the child was found safe, though visibly shaken by the experience.

According to reports, the family had been returning from a beach outing when they made a routine stop that would unexpectedly separate them from their young child.

Toilet Break Leads to Startling Separation

The family had reportedly stopped at a petrol station in Ratchaburi province while travelling back from Cha-am beach in Phetchaburi. During the stop, their daughter went to the toilet while the rest of the family remained near the vehicle.

However, in a lapse that would soon escalate into a serious situation, the family drove off before realising that the child had not returned to the car.

By the time the girl exited the restroom, her family was already gone. Left alone at the petrol station, the situation quickly became distressing, particularly given her young age and unfamiliar surroundings.

Police Step In as Family Cannot Be Reached

Authorities were alerted and officers from the local police station took the child into their care. However, efforts to reunite her with her family were initially hampered by a critical issue — the girl was unable to recall any contact numbers.

Without immediate access to her parents, officers had to rely on alternative methods to identify her. Eventually, the situation improved when the child was able to provide her full name, giving investigators a vital lead.

Using Thailand’s civil registration system, police successfully traced her family details and managed to establish contact.

Reunion After Tense Ordeal

After being informed of the situation, the parents made arrangements to return and retrieve their daughter. By then, they had already travelled over 130 kilometres from the petrol station.

The child, while safe, was reported to be emotionally shaken by the ordeal. Police ensured her safety and comfort throughout the process, highlighting the importance of swift response and proper procedures in such cases.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of how easily such situations can occur, particularly during long journeys where fatigue or distraction may play a role.

Authorities have urged families to remain vigilant during travel, especially when making stops along highways. Simple checks before leaving a location can prevent potentially dangerous situations and ensure the safety of all passengers.
