The victim, identified only as Leng, had allegedly been cycling home after work with a female colleague before the fatal collision occurred at the junction of Pasir Ris Drive 4 and Pasir Ris Drive 3.

According to Chinese-language media reports, the pair intended to freshen up at home before heading to the National Stadium for the concert.

Colleague Witnessed Fatal Collision

Leng’s colleague, surnamed Li, said the two women had known each other for around four years through work and often cycled home together as they lived near one another.

Li described Leng as cheerful and friendly. She recalled that both of them were riding side by side when the tipper truck allegedly made a left turn and struck Leng.

The impact reportedly caused the cyclist to be dragged for several metres before the truck finally came to a stop. Li claimed the vehicle appeared unable to brake in time after the collision.

The tragic road accident has since sparked renewed discussions online about cycling safety, heavy vehicle blind spots, and road sharing in Singapore.

Husband Rushed To Scene After Receiving Call

After the accident, Leng’s husband reportedly rushed to the scene after receiving a phone call from Li informing him about the incident.

Reports stated that Leng was originally from China and leaves behind a nine-year-old son. The child is currently being cared for by relatives in China and had not seen his mother for several months prior to the tragedy.

Traffic along the affected stretch of road was severely disrupted for hours following the accident. The lane reportedly remained closed for more than five hours while investigations were carried out at the scene.

The Singapore Police Force said officers were alerted to the accident at around 4.35pm on 23 May.

The collision involved a bicycle and a tipper truck at the junction of Pasir Ris Drive 4 and Pasir Ris Drive 3 in Pasir Ris.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

Police added that a 29-year-old male tipper truck driver is currently assisting with investigations. No arrests have been announced as investigations continue.

The incident comes amid growing public concern over road safety involving cyclists and heavy vehicles across Singapore, especially at busy junctions and industrial routes.
