1 Injured After Fire Breaks Out At Telok Blangah HDB Flat, Nearly 50 Residents Evacuated
A fire broke out at an HDB flat in Telok Blangah on the evening of May 24, leaving one man injured and forcing dozens of residents to evacuate temporarily.
The incident occurred at Block 56 Telok Blangah Heights at around 7pm.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), firefighters arrived at the scene to find thick black smoke billowing from a ninth-floor unit.
Officers subsequently forced entry into the flat before carrying out firefighting operations inside the unit.
Man Suffers Burns During Fire
SCDF said the fire involved a mattress located in the living room of the flat.
According to Chinese media reports, a man was believed to have suffered burn injuries after his body allegedly caught fire during the incident.
The injured man was attended to by paramedics at the scene before being conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for further treatment.
Authorities have not disclosed the extent of his injuries.
Firefighters later extinguished the blaze using a water jet before the flames could spread further within the residential unit.
As a precautionary measure, police officers and SCDF personnel evacuated around 48 residents from the affected block during the operation.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
MP Says Assistance Arranged For Affected Family
Following the incident, Member of Parliament Rachel Ong said her team visited residents living on the affected floors after the fire.
She shared that the family from the affected unit was safe and that no disruption to water or electricity supply was reported in the area.
Temporary accommodation and assistance were also arranged for the affected residents while investigations continue.
