Authorities in Thailand have issued a nationwide weather alert after heavy rain and thunderstorm conditions were forecast to hit 36 provinces, including Bangkok and surrounding areas.

The warning was released by the Thai Meteorological Department, which cautioned residents about the risk of flash floods, overflowing rivers and forest runoff as unstable weather conditions continue across large parts of the country.

According to meteorologists, the severe weather is being caused by a moderate southwest monsoon covering Thailand and the upper Andaman Sea, combined with moisture moving in from the South China Sea.

A low-pressure system developing over northern Vietnam is also reportedly intensifying rainfall across the region.

Heavy Rain Expected Across Multiple Regions

Weather officials said thunderstorms are expected to affect up to 60 per cent of several regions throughout the country.

Northern provinces including Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son and Tak are expected to experience particularly heavy downpours.

Meanwhile, northeastern areas such as Nong Khai and Udon Thani have also been placed under heavy rain warnings.

In central Thailand, provinces including Nakhon Pathom, Kanchanaburi and Ayutthaya may face intense thunderstorms and sudden flooding.

Eastern provinces such as Chon Buri, Rayong and Trat are also expected to experience rough weather conditions, accompanied by strong winds and large waves in coastal areas.

Southern Thailand is forecast to receive some of the heaviest rainfall, especially along the western coast, including Phuket, Krabi and Phang Nga.

Authorities warned that waves in the Andaman Sea could exceed two metres during storms.

Bangkok Residents Advised To Stay Alert

Bangkok and nearby provinces are also expected to be affected, with thunderstorms forecast across around 60 per cent of the capital region.

Temperatures in Bangkok are expected to range between 24°C and 35°C, with periods of heavy rain possible throughout the day.

Residents living in low-lying or flood-prone areas have been advised to remain alert for sudden flooding, especially during periods of intense rainfall.

Health officials also warned that rapidly changing weather conditions may increase the risk of illnesses, urging the public to take necessary precautions.

Seafarers Warned About Dangerous Sea Conditions

The Thai Meteorological Department also issued warnings to fishermen and seafarers navigating the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea.

Moderate to strong winds are expected to create rough sea conditions, particularly in storm-hit areas where waves could rise above two metres.

Small boats have been advised to exercise caution or avoid travelling during severe weather periods.

Thailand experiences seasonal monsoon activity annually, but authorities continue to monitor weather developments closely due to concerns over flash floods and landslides affecting residential communities and tourist destinations.
