BANGKOK & PHUKET AMONG AREAS HIT AS THAILAND BRACES FOR FLASH FLOODS & HEAVY MONSOON RAINS

Thailand is facing another wave of severe weather as the country’s Meteorological Department warned that heavy to very heavy rain could trigger flash floods and overflowing rivers across several regions.

The worsening weather conditions are being driven by a strengthening southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. At the same time, a monsoon trough stretching across the northern and central parts of the country is intensifying rainfall activity nationwide.

Authorities warned residents living near waterways, foothills, and low-lying areas to remain alert for possible flash floods and sudden runoff, especially after several provinces already experienced days of continuous rain.

Bangkok is expected to experience scattered thunderstorms throughout the day, with isolated areas likely to receive intense downpours. Temperatures in the capital are forecast to range between 24 and 36 degrees Celsius.

Heavy rain is also expected across central Thailand, including provinces such as Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom, and Samut Sakhon.

PHUKET & SOUTHERN THAILAND FACE THE WORST CONDITIONS

Southern Thailand’s west coast is expected to experience the harshest weather conditions, with provinces including Phuket, Krabi, Trang, Ranong, Phang Nga, and Satun forecast to receive very heavy rainfall.

Strong winds are also expected to create dangerous sea conditions. Waves in the upper Andaman Sea could reach up to three metres during thunderstorms, prompting officials to advise small boats to remain ashore until conditions improve.

Eastern provinces such as Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Prachin Buri, and Nakhon Nayok are also expected to experience heavy rain and rough seas.

Meanwhile, northern provinces including Tak and Kamphaeng Phet are forecast to receive isolated heavy showers, while northeastern areas such as Nakhon Ratchasima, Surin, Si Sa Ket, and Ubon Ratchathani are also expected to be affected by thunderstorms.

The Thai Meteorological Department stated that residents should continue monitoring weather updates closely as the monsoon system remains active and conditions could worsen in some areas over the coming days.

LANDSLIDES & TRANSPORT DISRUPTIONS FEARED

The latest warning comes as parts of Thailand have already begun experiencing weather-related disruptions. Earlier reports from Mae Hong Son revealed that a landslide had blocked a highway and trapped vehicles after prolonged rain battered the area.

Officials are concerned that continued heavy rainfall may increase the risk of landslides, road collapses, and transport disruptions, particularly in mountainous regions and areas with poor drainage systems.

Tourists travelling to Thailand during this period are also being advised to check local weather conditions before heading to islands or coastal destinations, as rough seas may affect ferry services and marine activities.

The rainy season in Thailand typically intensifies between June and October, but meteorologists say the current southwest monsoon appears stronger than usual, leading to heightened flood risks across several provinces.
