S’pore student remanded after deadly Johor crash kills 5, including 10-year-old girl
A 19-year-old Mercedes-Benz driver from Singapore has reportedly been remanded in Malaysia after allegedly being involved in a horrific crash in Johor that claimed five lives, including an entire family of four.
According to Malaysian media reports, the teenager is believed to be a university student studying in Singapore. He was brought before the Batu Pahat Magistrate’s Court on June 2 for remand proceedings linked to the fatal accident.
Authorities are currently investigating the case under Malaysia’s Road Transport Act for dangerous and reckless driving. If found guilty, the teen could face up to five years behind bars and a fine of up to RM15,000, which is around S$4,800.
The fatal incident reportedly happened along Jalan Renggam–Simpang Renggam in Kluang at around 1.15pm on June 1.
According to police investigations, a BMW 530e allegedly driven by the teen’s 22-year-old brother was travelling at high speed alongside the Mercedes-Benz A250 driven by the younger sibling. The two vehicles were allegedly speeding before the BMW lost control.
The BMW reportedly veered into the opposite lane and smashed into several vehicles, triggering a devastating five-vehicle collision.
Among the victims was a family travelling in a Toyota Vios. The crash claimed the lives of four family members, including a 10-year-old girl, shocking many across both Malaysia and Singapore.
The 22-year-old BMW driver also reportedly died while being transported to hospital following the collision.
The incident has since sparked widespread discussion online, with many questioning reckless driving behaviour on Malaysian roads, especially involving high-performance vehicles.
Photos and reports circulating online showed the aftermath of the crash, with mangled vehicles scattered across the roadway. Emergency responders were seen attending to victims at the scene.
Malaysian police are continuing investigations into the case.
