A 52-year-old Singaporean man had to be carried down a mountain in Malaysia after suffering a fractured right arm while descending from the summit of Gunung Datuk in Negeri Sembilan.
The incident reportedly took place on the morning of May 30 during a hiking trip involving a group of 11 climbers.
According to local reports, the man slipped and fell at a rocky section near the summit staircase while making his way down the mountain. The fall caused a fracture to his right arm, leaving him unable to continue the descent on his own.
Emergency responders from the Negeri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at around 10:29am and immediately launched a rescue operation.
Rescuers Hiked 2km To Reach Injured Singaporean
Photos shared by the local fire and rescue department showed emergency personnel and fellow hikers transporting the injured man down the mountain using a stretcher.
At certain points during the difficult rescue effort, the man was seen wrapped in what appeared to be a thermal blanket while responders carefully navigated the steep terrain.
Officials said rescue personnel had to hike roughly 2km uphill from the foot of the mountain before reaching the injured hiker.
The operation involved five emergency responders, along with assistance from local mountain guides who had accompanied the hiking group earlier in the day.
After stabilising the man, rescuers slowly brought him down the mountain before he was transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The entire rescue mission concluded at approximately 2:28pm.
Gunung Datuk Known For Challenging Terrain
Gunung Datuk, located in Negeri Sembilan, stands around 885m above sea level and is a popular hiking destination among both Malaysians and Singaporeans.
The mountain is known for its steep and rugged terrain, particularly near the summit where hikers must climb near-vertical steel ladders attached directly onto massive granite rock formations.
The peak is also associated with local folklore linked to the legendary Malay warrior Hang Tuah, with some believing a footprint-shaped depression on one of the rocks belongs to the famed warrior.
Due to the mountain’s uneven rocky sections and steep descent paths, hikers are often advised to exercise extra caution, especially during wet or slippery conditions.
The incident serves as another reminder that even experienced hikers can suffer injuries on challenging trails, particularly while descending, when fatigue and unstable footing can increase the risk of accidents.
