According to Johor acting police chief Deputy Commissioner Hoo Chuan Huat, the suspect was detained at around noon on June 2 within the compound of Hospital Sultanah Aminah. The woman is believed to be the biological mother of the baby.

The tragic case came to light after authorities received a report regarding the discovery of a newborn baby’s body in the parking area of a flat in Johor Baru. Preliminary investigations led police to identify and subsequently arrest the woman. Investigators have since recorded statements from several witnesses as part of the ongoing probe.

Police Say Newborn Was Alive Before Fall

Police revealed that evidence gathered during the investigation suggests the baby girl was alive when she was allegedly thrown from the high-rise building.

Authorities believe the fall caused the infant’s death. The case has shocked many in Malaysia, with the circumstances surrounding the incident drawing widespread public attention and concern.

The incident has reignited discussions about support systems available to women facing unplanned pregnancies, as well as the importance of seeking medical and emotional assistance during times of crisis.

Suspect To Face Court Charge

Following legal review, prosecutors instructed that the woman be charged under Section 304(a) of Malaysia’s Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The offence carries a potential prison sentence of up to 30 years and may also include a fine upon conviction.

The suspect is expected to be produced before the Johor Baru Sessions Court on June 3.

The case remains under investigation as authorities work to establish the full circumstances leading up to the newborn’s death. Police have not disclosed additional details regarding the motive or whether any other individuals may have been involved.
