Man, 37, Arrested After Alleged Molestation Case Involving 62-Year-Old Woman Near Sungei Tengah Road

A 37-year-old man has been arrested in Singapore following an alleged molestation incident involving a 62-year-old woman in the Sungei Tengah Road area.

According to a statement issued by the Singapore Police Force, officers received a report regarding the alleged offence at approximately 7:40am on May 27. The incident was reported to have taken place in the vicinity of Sungei Tengah Road, an area located in the north-western part of Singapore that is known for its agricultural and farming activities.

Police subsequently launched investigations into the case, gathering evidence and conducting follow-up enquiries to establish the identity of the suspect.

CCTV Footage Assisted Investigators

Authorities said investigators were able to identify the man through a combination of police camera footage and recordings obtained from closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems in the area.

Following the investigations, officers arrested the suspect on Jun. 3. The arrest came just over a week after the alleged incident was first reported.

Suspect To Face Court Charges

The 37-year-old is scheduled to be charged in court on Jun. 5. He is expected to face a charge of outrage of modesty in certain circumstances under Section 354A(1) of Singapore’s Penal Code.

If convicted, offenders found guilty under this provision face severe penalties. The offence carries a mandatory jail sentence ranging from two to 10 years. In addition, offenders may also be liable to caning.

Singapore maintains strict laws against sexual offences, with the authorities consistently emphasising that such crimes will be dealt with firmly to protect members of the public.

Police Reiterate Zero-Tolerance Approach

In their statement, the police reaffirmed their zero-tolerance stance towards individuals who commit sexual offences against unsuspecting victims.

The authorities stressed that offenders who target members of the public will face the full force of the law. They also encouraged victims of molestation or other sexual offences to seek help and contact the police as soon as it is safe to do so.

Members of the public were advised to move away from the alleged offender whenever possible and report the incident promptly. Police further encouraged victims and witnesses to remember important details, such as the suspect’s appearance, clothing, as well as the exact time and location of the incident, as such information can be valuable in investigations.

The case remains before the courts, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in accordance with Singapore law.
