A young woman in Malaysia was left traumatised after she was allegedly filmed while using the toilet at a well-known fried chicken outlet.

The incident reportedly happened at around 9.50pm on 4 June at a fast-food restaurant in Selangor. The 23-year-old victim said she was inside the toilet when she suddenly heard someone whistling.

At first, she did not think much of it. However, when the whistling was heard again, she looked towards the ventilation area and allegedly saw a mobile phone being used to record her through a gap.

Victim Alerted Restaurant Staff After Spotting Phone

According to the victim, the person holding the phone quickly pulled the device away and fled after being spotted.

Shocked by what had happened, she immediately informed the restaurant’s management before lodging a police report.

The case soon took an alarming turn after police reviewed CCTV footage from the premises. The suspect was allegedly identified as an employee of the same fried chicken outlet.

Police Checked Employees’ Phones At The Scene

Police officers later arrived at the restaurant and inspected the mobile phones of staff members as part of their investigation.

During checks, authorities reportedly found more than 20 suspected secretly recorded videos on the suspect’s phone.

The discovery has sparked public outrage, with many online users calling for stronger workplace checks, better toilet security, and stricter action against voyeurism cases in food and beverage outlets.

Case Being Investigated Under Criminal Law

Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin confirmed that police had received a report from the female victim.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which covers words or gestures intended to insult the modesty of a person.

The incident has also raised fresh concerns over hidden recording devices and customer safety in public toilets, particularly in restaurants, malls, petrol stations, and other high-traffic public spaces.

For many customers, such facilities are expected to be private and secure. However, cases involving mobile phones, hidden cameras, and unauthorised recordings continue to fuel worries over personal privacy and digital safety.

Members of the public are advised to stay alert when using public toilets and report suspicious gaps, unusual objects, or anyone behaving suspiciously near toilet areas.

Restaurant operators may also need to review their premises more regularly, especially ventilation panels, ceiling gaps, wall fixtures, and other areas where recording devices could be concealed.

As investigations continue, police have urged the public to allow due process to take place and avoid spreading unverified claims online.
