The incident was captured on a dashcam and later uploaded by SG Road Vigilante, where it quickly attracted attention from netizens.

According to information shared alongside the video, the incident occurred at around 10:43am on Jun. 6 near Plantation Crescent in Tengah.

Driver Forced To Take Evasive Action

The dashcam footage showed the traffic light in favour of vehicles while the pedestrian crossing signal remained red.

Despite the signal, a young woman was seen suddenly running across the road from the right side of the carriageway.

The driver claimed the pedestrian appeared to have noticed the approaching vehicle but continued crossing, allegedly in a rush to reach a nearby bus stop serving Bus 870.

With little time to react, the motorist immediately applied the brakes to avoid hitting her.

Fortunately, the vehicle stopped in time and no collision occurred.

Family Inside Vehicle During Near-Miss

In a statement accompanying the footage, the driver said the incident was dangerous not only for the pedestrian but also for everyone else on the road.

The motorist added that family members were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.

The driver said a split-second delay in reaction could have resulted in serious consequences for multiple parties.

The footage was shared online as a reminder for both pedestrians and motorists to remain alert and obey traffic signals.

Netizens Shocked By Pedestrian’s Reaction

Many viewers were particularly surprised by the pedestrian’s apparent reaction after crossing the road.

Several commenters claimed she appeared to be smiling or laughing despite the near-miss.

One commenter remarked that she had used up a significant portion of her luck, while another said they hoped her parents would see the video and speak to her about road safety.

Others noted that the outcome could have been far worse if the driver had been travelling slightly faster or failed to react in time.

Road Safety Concerns Raised

The incident also sparked wider discussions about pedestrian behaviour and road safety in newer estates such as Tengah.

Some commenters claimed they frequently witness pedestrians crossing against the lights in the area, particularly when trying to catch buses.

Others pointed out that motorists involved in such incidents may face emotional distress even when they are not at fault.

While no injuries were reported in this case, many netizens agreed that the footage serves as a stark reminder that traffic signals are there for a reason.

A few seconds saved by rushing across a road may not be worth the potentially life-changing consequences of a serious accident.
