A shocking discovery was made in Thailand after sanitation workers found the body of a teenage girl hidden among rubbish while carrying out their routine collection duties.
The victim was later identified as a 17-year-old girl who had been missing for almost two weeks, with police confirming her identity through distinctive tattoos found on her body.
The incident occurred in Rayong province, where garbage collectors were emptying rubbish bins before compacting the waste inside a garbage truck.
Workers Alerted By Strong Odour Before Grim Discovery
According to reports, a 52-year-old garbage truck driver and his colleague were following their usual collection route at around 5am when they noticed an unusually strong foul smell coming from one of the rubbish bins.
The area was reportedly swarming with flies and maggots, but the workers initially did not suspect anything unusual and proceeded with their duties.
After lifting the bin and emptying its contents into the garbage truck’s compactor, a rubbish bag suddenly burst open while the machine was operating, revealing a human body inside.
The workers immediately stopped the machinery and discovered the victim was a young woman. Authorities were contacted shortly afterwards.
Police said the victim had long red hair, fair skin and a small build. Her body was covered with flies and maggots, and investigators estimated she had been dead for at least four to five days before being discovered.
Police Used Social Media Clues To Identify Victim
As no identification documents were found at the scene, investigators began examining multiple leads to establish the victim’s identity.
Authorities reviewed nearby CCTV footage, checked records of missing persons and foreign workers, and issued a public appeal for information.
Police later received numerous tips from social media users and eventually identified the victim through the unique tattoos on her chest and back.
The teenager was confirmed to be a 17-year-old girl from Nakhon Ratchasima province who had been reported missing approximately two weeks earlier.
Her family has since been notified and arrangements are underway for them to claim her remains.
Murder Investigation Underway
Police have launched an investigation to determine how the teenager ended up inside the rubbish bin and whether foul play was involved.
Investigators are currently working to reconstruct the victim’s final movements, identify any suspects and determine the exact cause of death.
The disturbing case has sparked widespread concern in Thailand and generated significant discussion on social media, with many calling for authorities to swiftly bring those responsible to justice.
