73-Year-Old Man Found Dead In Buangkok Flat After Missing Work For Two Days
A 73-year-old man was found dead inside his flat in Buangkok after he failed to turn up for work for two consecutive days, prompting his employer to check on his wellbeing.
The incident occurred on Saturday, June 20, at a residential unit in Block 994A Buangkok Link.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the elderly man had been living alone and his absence from work, coupled with a sudden loss of contact with his family, raised concerns among those close to him.
Employer Became Concerned After Losing Contact
A neighbour told local Chinese media that a man believed to be the deceased’s employer arrived at the flat with his mother at around 5pm.
The employer reportedly explained that the elderly worker had not shown up for work for two days.
He also shared that the man would usually call his mother every day, but had stopped doing so during the same period.
Concerned about his wellbeing, the employer is believed to have contacted the police for assistance.
Police Found The Man Motionless Inside The Unit
The Singapore Police Force said it received a call for assistance at around 7.45pm on June 20.
Officers discovered the 73-year-old man lying motionless inside the residential unit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Based on preliminary investigations, no foul play is suspected.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Neighbours Say He Lived A Quiet And Solitary Life
Residents described the deceased as a quiet individual who generally kept to himself.
One neighbour said she occasionally saw him sitting in his living room watching television or passing through the corridor, but they rarely interacted.
Despite not knowing him well, she expressed sadness over his passing.
The neighbour also noticed that his front door had remained closed for several days and that his lights had been left on continuously.
She added that she had not heard the usual sounds of him leaving or returning home in recent days.
Strong Odour Detected When Police Opened The Door
After officers entered the flat, a strong foul odour spread into the corridor.
The smell was reportedly so overwhelming that a pregnant neighbour had to immediately shut her own door.
She said she had not noticed any unusual smell earlier, even though the deceased had reportedly kept his windows open most of the time.
The case comes amid several recent incidents involving elderly residents living alone in Singapore, highlighting the importance of regular welfare checks by family members, friends, employers and neighbours, especially when someone suddenly becomes uncontactable or breaks their usual routine.
