A father and his 15-year-old son were arrested in Hong Kong after police allegedly caught the teenager driving a Tesla despite not having a driving licence.

The incident happened at around 11pm on Jun. 23 in Wan Chai during an anti-drink driving operation conducted by Hong Kong police.

Officers had set up a roadblock near Marsh Road and Hung Hing Road when they noticed a Tesla driving erratically.

According to local reports, the vehicle was seen swerving from side to side and even came to a stop unexpectedly, prompting officers to pull it over for further checks.

Father Allegedly Asked Son To Drive Him Home

Investigations revealed that the 15-year-old driver was a Pakistani-Hong Kong student who was still attending school.

He and his father, who both hold Hong Kong identity cards, had reportedly been having dinner in Wan Chai earlier that evening.

During the meal, the father allegedly consumed alcohol and decided he was unfit to drive.

Instead of arranging alternative transport, he allegedly instructed his teenage son to drive them back home to Chai Wan.

Authorities said the Tesla was registered under a company owned by the father.

It was also reportedly the teenager’s first time behind the wheel.

Fortunately, no accident occurred before police intercepted the vehicle.

Both Father And Son Arrested

Following preliminary investigations, police arrested the 15-year-old on suspicion of unlicensed driving and driving without third-party insurance.

The father was also arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting unlicensed driving, as well as assisting another person to drive without third-party insurance coverage.

Both individuals were taken into custody and investigations are ongoing.

Online Users Shocked By Decision

The incident has sparked discussions online, with many questioning why the father chose to let his underage son drive instead of taking a taxi or using ride-hailing services.

While the father may have been trying to avoid drink driving, authorities stressed that allowing an unlicensed minor to operate a vehicle is both dangerous and illegal.

Many netizens also pointed out that avoiding one offence does not justify committing another, especially when public safety is at risk.
