YISHUN NEIGHBOUR EVERYDAY 7PM WILL BEGIN CHANTING “AH YI WU AH” FOR 1 HOUR. AM I THE SIAO LANG OR THEM?

Serious question, guys. I need to check if my head still correct or if the Yishun aura finally catch up to me.

I’ve been staying in this block for about two years. Everything was fine, standard peaceful HDB vibe, until maybe three months ago. Now, like clockwork, every single day at exactly 7:00 PM, my direct next-door neighbour will start.

No warm-up, no warning. Just straight into this rhythmic, deep-bass chanting:

“AH YI WU AH… AH YI WU AH… AH YI WU AH…”

It’s not standard Buddhist chanting or Hindu prayers. I know what those sound like. This one sounds like some ancient tribal ritual mixed with a broken washing machine spinning at maximum RPM. The guy’s voice is damn loud, even with my main door and windows fully shut, the bass vibrates through the common wall. If I put my hand on my living room wall, I can actually feel the “AH YI WU AH” thumping into my palms.

And the worst part? He doesn’t stop. He will carry on like this for exactly one hour. By 8:00 PM sharp, he will suddenly cut off mid-chant, and then total silence. Like the power grid got pulled.

What it means, I also dono. Is it a secret exercise routine? Vocal training for a metal band? Or is he trying to summon some HDB property deity to bring down the resale prices? I tried asking my other neighbours across the corridor, but they just give me that classic, blank Singaporean look and say, “Oh, is it? Never notice leh.”

Bro, how can you not notice?! It’s literally echoing down the whole lift landing!

That’s when the existential dread started kicking in. You know that famous meme that Yishun is the black hole of Singapore where all the siao langs (crazy people) gather? Now I’m genuinely wondering: is my neighbour actually chanting, or have I officially lost my mind and started hallucinating the whole thing because I also stay in Yishun? Maybe the curse of the ring road finally got me.

Last night, I got so stressed out I had to go downstairs, walk over to the nearby coffee shop, and down two towers of Tiger beer with my buddy just to clear my head. When I walked back up at 9 PM, the corridor was quiet, but I swear I could still hear a faint “wu ah” ringing in my ears.

Anyone else staying near Block 7X0 experiencing this? Should I leave a polite note on his door, or should I just pack my bags and move to Woodlands? Help a brother out before I start chanting back.
