A man in Bangkok allegedly caused a chain-reaction crash involving eight vehicles after reportedly losing control of his emotions following a sudden break-up with his partner.
The dramatic incident took place along Sriwara Road in Bangkok’s Wang Thonglang district on June 29, with eyewitnesses describing scenes of chaos as a newly registered Mercedes-Benz repeatedly collided with vehicles along the busy roadway.
Videos circulating online captured the luxury vehicle ploughing into multiple cars, leaving behind a trail of damaged vehicles and shocked motorists.
Luxury Car Leaves Trail of Destruction
According to local reports, the bronze-grey Mercedes-Benz, which was displaying temporary red registration plates, was seen crashing into vehicle after vehicle without stopping.
Footage shared widely on social media showed the car continuing forward despite multiple impacts, causing extensive damage along the route.
One witness, a 36-year-old food delivery rider, said he initially heard a series of loud crashes while waiting to collect an order nearby.
When he turned to look, he allegedly saw the Mercedes continuing down the road, colliding with several vehicles before eventually coming to a halt.
Two People Suffer Minor Injuries
Authorities confirmed that two occupants of one of the affected vehicles sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Emergency responders attended the scene while traffic police worked to secure the area and assess the damage.
Several vehicles involved in the collisions suffered significant damage, while the Mercedes itself was left heavily wrecked, particularly at the front end.
The damaged vehicles were later transported for further investigation as officers gathered evidence relating to the crash.
Driver Reportedly Distraught After Relationship Ended
Witnesses claimed the driver appeared visibly distressed following the incident.
The delivery rider who spoke with the man said he was shaking, crying and struggling to compose himself after exiting the vehicle.
According to the witness, the driver explained that he had just received a phone call informing him that his relationship had ended, leaving him emotionally overwhelmed.
The witness reportedly attempted to calm the man down and urged him not to allow personal issues to endanger innocent members of the public.
The driver allegedly expressed remorse and indicated he was willing to compensate those affected by the collisions.
Police Rule Out Alcohol and Drugs
When officers arrived at the scene, they initially suspected intoxication due to the unusual nature of the crash.
However, subsequent breathalyser and drug screening tests reportedly found no evidence that alcohol or illegal substances played a role.
Preliminary checks also revealed no known history of psychiatric treatment linked to the driver.
Investigators said the man admitted he had argued with his partner shortly before the relationship ended and acknowledged that he lost emotional control.
