‘S’porean’ films himself pumping RON95 in M’sia Showing SG Passport, To Trigger M’sians

A social media user claiming to be Singaporean has come under fire after posting a video of himself pumping RON95 petrol at a petrol station in Malaysia while openly mocking locals online.

The clip, which surfaced on Threads on 30 June, quickly attracted widespread attention and criticism from both Malaysians and Singaporeans, with many questioning whether the individual had breached Malaysia’s fuel regulations.

The video showed a person holding what appeared to be a Singapore passport while a vehicle was being refuelled using a yellow RON95 fuel nozzle. The camera later focused on a fuel pump labelled “Premium 95”, seemingly indicating that RON95 petrol was being dispensed.

Post Appeared Designed To Provoke Malaysians

The individual accompanied the video with a provocative caption, writing: “How to piss off Malaysians as a Singaporean. Step one. Steal their oil.”

The remark immediately drew criticism from social media users, many of whom accused the poster of deliberately trying to stir tensions between Singaporeans and Malaysians.

RON95 fuel in Malaysia is heavily subsidised by the government and has long been a sensitive issue involving foreign motorists. Singapore-registered vehicles are generally not permitted to purchase subsidised RON95 petrol and are required to use higher-grade fuels instead.

The controversial post reignited discussions surrounding fuel subsidy abuse and cross-border enforcement.

Netizens Call For Investigation

Many online commenters condemned the individual’s actions, with some labelling him an embarrassment and accusing him of openly flaunting the law.

Several users said they would report the matter to the authorities, while others tagged relevant Malaysian and Singaporean agencies in the comments, urging them to investigate whether any regulations had been violated.

Some Singaporean commenters also expressed disappointment, saying the behaviour reflected poorly on fellow citizens travelling across the Causeway.

The incident generated significant debate online, with many questioning why anyone would publicly post evidence of potentially breaking rules.

Possibility He Was Driving A Malaysian-Registered Vehicle

Despite the backlash, some users pointed out that the situation may not be as straightforward as it appeared.

One commenter suggested the individual could have been driving or renting a Malaysia-registered vehicle. Under current regulations, foreigners and Malaysian permanent residents are allowed to purchase unsubsidised RON95 fuel if they are using locally registered vehicles.

This means the act itself may not necessarily have been illegal, depending on the vehicle’s registration and the pricing mechanism used during the transaction.

However, the video did not reveal enough details to confirm whether the car involved was registered in Malaysia or Singapore.

As a result, many netizens continued to speculate while calling for authorities to verify the circumstances surrounding the viral clip.

The incident has once again highlighted the sensitivity surrounding Malaysia’s fuel subsidy policies and the scrutiny faced by motorists travelling between the two neighbouring countries.
