Genuinely thought I’ve seen it all, but Yishun really never fails to deliver.
So earlier today I was visiting my friend who lives around the Yishun ring road area. Was just casually walking through the HDB void deck and heading towards the pick-up/drop-off point to wait for my Grab. Suddenly, I hear this super loud, generic EDM remix TikTok music blasting from one of the pillars.
I turn around and see this epic live drama unfolding. There’s this woman, probably around her mid-40s, but she dress up fully like she going clubbing at Zouk on a Wednesday night. Full-on Ah Lian makeup, tight dress, hair bleached till a bit dry, the whole package. Standing in front of her is this poor girl, looks like maybe 12 or 13 years old only, holding the phone and adjusting the angle. Basically the mother was using her own daughter as a portable human tripod to film a TikTok dancing video.
The daughter looked damn black face and totally done with life. After a few seconds, the girl lowered the phone and groaned super loudly: “Ma fan la! Keep asking me to take video video, so hot and so paiseh!” (Understandable, it was literally 2 PM and scorching hot).
Then the mother, without even blinking, shot back in full volume: “Then how I going to find you a new father without it?!”
Knn I hear liao almost choked and spat my drink out on the floor. I walked past pretending to look at my phone but inside my heart I dono whether want to laugh or cry. It was peak comedy but also a bit tragic, you know?
Not say I want to be judgmental or what la, and mad respect if she’s a struggling single mom trying to put herself out there. Dating in your 40s is tough, I get it. But using your secondary school kid as your personal production crew at an HDB drop-off point to hunt for a stepdad is next level wild. The daughter looked like she wanted the earth to just swallow her whole.
Only in Yishun, bro. I swear there must be something in the water there. Anyone else encountered this TikTok star in the making?
